Mount Kilimanjaro Climbing Machame Route – 8 Days

Mount Kilimanjaro is the tallest mountain on the African continent and the highest freestanding mountain in the world. Kilimanjaro has three volcanic cones, Mawenzi, Shira and Kibo. Mawenzi and Shira are extinct but Kibo, the highest peak, is dormant and could erupt again.

Can any one-climb mountain Kilimanjaro? For the average person though, being able to successfully climb and reach the summit of Kilimanjaro is definitely attainable. You don’t need to be particularly fit (indeed being too fit can be detrimental) and you do not need any technical climbing skills.

Kilimanjaro’s altitude is a significant challenge, but climbers do not need supplemental oxygen to climb Kilimanjaro or reach the summit. To reach to the summit you use the acclimatization method of walking slowly “pole pole” climb high. It takes anywhere from five to nine days in order to reach the Mount Kilimanjaro Summit and then descend to the finishing point. The more days spent on Mount Kilimanjaro the more likely you will successfully summit, as you will become more acclimatized to the altitude and will be less fatigued.
